Brent Burns Early Life

Brent Burns was born on March 9, 1985, in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. Growing up, he was heavily influenced by his grandfather, who lived with him and shared stories from his time in the Canadian military during World War II. This sparked Brent’s interest in military history and the outdoors. Although Brent didn’t come from a hunting family, he developed a passion for wildlife and the outdoors, which later became a big part of his life.

He once had snakes escape in his Minnesota home and has shared wild stories about his animals with teammates. He has diverse interests, including cycling, painting, and playing guitar. Burns is very intellectual, often engaging in deep conversations on various topics.

Brent Burns Professional Career

Brent Burns began his professional hockey career when he was drafted 20th overall by the Minnesota Wild in the 2003 NHL Draft. Initially drafted as a winger, Burns transitioned to defense during his time with Minnesota. He developed into one of the team’s top players, with a career-high 43 points in the 2007–08 season. Burns faced multiple injuries, including concussions, which affected his play in later seasons.

In 2011, he was traded to the San Jose Sharks, where he became one of the NHL's top defensemen. Burns won the Norris Trophy as the league's best defenseman in 2017. He signed an eight-year contract in 2016 and helped the Sharks reach the Stanley Cup Final in 2016. Burns was traded to the Hurricanes in 2022. He reached his 1,300th career game in January 2023, continuing to be a valuable asset to his team.
