Brett Kulak is a defenseman from Stony Plain, Alberta, who currently plays for the Edmonton Oilers in the National Hockey League (NHL). Notably, he was drafted by the Calgary Flames in the fourth round (105th overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft after completing his first full season with the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League. However, he remained with Vancouver Giants for two more seasons before signing a three-year, entry-level contract with the Flames on March 18, 2014.

Notwithstanding, Kulak began his professional career in the ECHL and quickly moved up to the Adirondack Flames of the American Hockey League (AHL), and made his NHL debut on April 11, 2015. The following season, he played mainly in the AHL but appeared in eight NHL games with the Flames. By the 2017-18 season, Kulak had become a regular on the Flames' third defensive pair, contributing eight points (two goals, six assists) over 71 games. He was traded to the Montreal Canadiens on October 1, 2018, and in his first season with Montreal, he recorded 17 points (six goals, 11 assists) in 57 games.
