Calgary Flames' top 3 prospects to watch out for in 2024/25 season

The Calgary Flames are a rebuilding team, and in the 2024/25 NHL season, the team should give some playing time to their prospects.

Calgary has drafted well as of late, and several prospects are on the cusp of making the NHL. Ahead of the upcoming season, here are three Flames prospects who could be a factor in the NHL next season.

Calgary Flames' top 3 prospects to watch out for

No. 1: Samuel Honzek

Honzek is the Calgary Flames' third-ranked prospect, but the top two prospects are unlikely to make the NHL next season.

Honzek was drafted 16th overall in the 2023 NHL draft, and although he could be returned to the WHL, he has a chance of making the Flames roster out of training camp.

Honzek is a big-body forward and appeared in two games for Calgary last season. He should be a middle-six forward for the Flames next season.

No. 2: Jeremie Poirier

Calgary selected Poirier with the 72nd overall pick in the 2020 NHL draft but he has developed well.

The Flames traded for Kevin Bahl and signed Jake Bean to bolster their defense, but Poirier will be in the AHL and will be called upon should Calgary suffer some injuries to their defense or if someone struggles.

Poirier recorded three goals and 10 assists for 13 points in 23 AHL games last season.

No. 3: Dustin Wolf

Wolf has played 18 NHL games for the Flames, but the 23-year-old will have a great chance to make a huge impact for Calgary.

Wolf projects to be the starting goalie for the Flames this season after they traded Jacob Markstrom. Wolf is 8-7-1 with a 3.03 GAA and a .896 SV% in his brief NHL career.

He is one of the top goalie prospects in the NHL and should get plenty of starts this season.
