Carter Verhaeghe is a Canadian professional ice hockey forward, currently playing for the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League (NHL). Notably, he was drafted in the third round as the 82nd overall pick by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
Verhaeghe was born on August 14, 1995, in Waterdown, Ontario, Canada, where his father Thomas, introduced him to ice hockey. He started skating and soon joined organized hockey through the Flamborough Hockey Association, eventually playing for the Hamilton Junior Bulldogs and the Halton Hurricanes. Moreover, he grew up playing lacrosse and soccer too. During high school, Verhaeghe played for St. Mary Catholic Secondary School's Crusaders with future NHLer Mark Jankowski and won the 2010 Hamilton Junior Cup. He also played for the Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs, where he scored 34 goals in the 2010–11 season, which ultimately paved the way for his selection by the Niagara IceDogs in the 2011 OHL Priority Selection. Verhaeghe was later drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2013 and began his career with the Toronto Marlies of the AHL before getting traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Kristers Gudlevskis on July 1, 2017. However, he had to wait for his NHL debut until October 2019, when he made his debut against the Florida Panthers.
