The form from last year has to phase out for these players as the new NHL season is almost upon them.


Chicago Blackhawks key players and injuries

Craig Smith found the back of the net in Game 1 while youngster Connor Bedard provided an assist. Per CBS, goaltender Laurent Brossoit will be out due to a knee injury. He is expected to be out till Oct. 17. Defenseman Artyom Levshunov also sits out this one due to a foot injury. He's expected to return by Oct. 8.

Goals from Olli Määttä, Tyler Motte, Jeff Petry and Lucas Raymond helped the Red Wings gain a comfortable lead in Game 1. Despite conceding two goals, the Red Wings were controlling the game.

However, the Red Wings fell short of qualifying for the playoff stages despite winning three games in a row toward the end of the season. They will want to right the wrong from last season and get off to a good start this time.


Detroit Red Wings key players and injuries

Alex DeBrincat and Dylan Larkin each provided one assist in Game 1, keeping the opposition goalkeeper busy. There are no injuries for the Red Wings.
