Darnell Nurse is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman serving as an alternate captain for the Edmonton Oilers in the National Hockey League. Born on February 4, 1995, in Hamilton, Ontario, Nurse was drafted seventh overall by the Oilers in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. He spent time in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, where he was named team captain before joining the Oilers. Nurse made his NHL debut in 2014.

After a few years of development, he sharpened himself as one of the Oilers' top defencemen. Nurse was named an alternate captain for the Oilers in 2019. In 2021, he signed an eight-year, $74 million contract extension with the team.
