Boston Bruins fans can rejoice as the team announced that they have come to an agreement with their superstar David Pastrnak. The pending free agent came to an eight-year, $90 million agreement with the club, which will see him under contract through the 2030-31 season. The contract carries an average salary of $11.25 million per season.
"Bruins make it official: David Pastrnak has signed an eight-year, $90 million contract extension with Boston. Annual NHL cap hit of $11.25 million." - Conor Ryan
Pastrnak has been one of the top players in the NHL for the past few years, posting 282 goals and 302 assists through 570 games with the Bruins. So far this season, the talented forward has posted 42 goals and 38 assists in 60 games for the league-leading Boston Bruins.
While fans have anxiously awaited the signing, it always appeared that the two parties were committed to reaching an agreement. However, that feeling has been shared before only to have a player sign elsewhere, which explains the nervousness among Bruins fans.
The 26-year-old has already surpassed the 40-goal threshold, the third time in four seasons that he has accomplished this feat. Once his new contract kicks in, his $11.25 million salary will rank him as the sixth highest-paid player in the league.
"David Pastrnak, signed to an 8x$11.25M extension, is an elite sniper, a brilliant scorer with excellent puck skills who creates chances in all kinds of ways. Dangerous off the rush, the cycle, off one-timers, on the powerplay, etc. #NHLBruins" - @JFreshHockey
The extension means that the Boston Bruins will keep Pastrnak under contract until through his athletic prime, which will help him continue to climb the franchise record list. He currently ranks ninth in Bruins franchise history with 282 goals, third in total hat tricks with 13, 18th in assists with 302, and 14th in all-time Bruins points with 584.

The announcement of the Pastrnak signing came moments after the Boston Bruins landed gritty forward Tyler Bertuzzi from the Detroit Red Wings. The B's sent a protected 2024 first-round draft pick and a 2025 fourth-round pick to the Red Wings in return.
Last week, GM Don Sweeney landed Dmitry Orlov and Garnet Hathaway from the Washington Capitals. Orlov has already paid off for the Bruins as the veteran defenseman has recorded five points in his first three games with the league leaders.
