Dean Evason is a former NHL center and the head coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets, as of January 2025. He played 13 NHL seasons with the Washington Capitals, Hartford Whalers, San Jose Sharks, Dallas Stars, and Calgary Flames. Evason recorded 372 points in 803 games and had 1,000 penalty minutes. After his NHL career, he played in Switzerland and Germany before retiring in 1999.

Following his playing career, Evason transitioned to coaching, starting in the WHL before becoming an NHL assistant with the Washington Capitals (2005-2012). He later coached the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals and was head coach of the Minnesota Wild from 2020 to 2023, leading them to four playoff appearances. He was named Columbus Blue Jackets head coach in 2024.

His excellence in baseball led to his induction into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame. He passed away on May 11, 2019, shortly before his induction into the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame.
