The Detroit Red Wings

The Detroit Red Wings are an American professional ice hockey team based in Detroit, Michigan. Founded in 1926, the Red Wings are part of the Eastern Conference, though historically, they were in the Western Conference until a league realignment in 2013. As one of the NHL's 'Original Six' teams, the Red Wings were among the only six teams that competed in the league between 1942 and its expansion in 1967.

The Red Wings enjoyed early success in the 1930s, winning their first Stanley Cup in the 1935–36 season under coach Jack Adams. The team’s golden era came in the 1950s, led by legendary players Gordie Howe and Terry Sawchuk, with four championships during the decade. The 1990s saw the rise of the "Russian Five" and back-to-back Stanley Cups in 1996–97 and 1997–98 for the Red Wings. The team added another championship in 2001–02 and won the Cup again in 2007–08. After moving to the Eastern Conference in 2013, the Red Wings faced a rebuilding phase, marked by the end of a 25-season playoff streak in 2016–17. Steve Yzerman returned as general manager in 2019, aiming to restore the team's former glory.
