Devon Toews is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenseman, who as of 2024, plays for the Colorado Avalanche in the NHL. Drafted 108th overall by the New York Islanders in 2014, Toews played collegiate hockey at Quinnipiac University, where he earned All-ECAC Hockey Second Team honors. After turning professional, he started in the AHL before making his NHL debut with the Islanders in 2018, eventually helping them reach the playoffs.

In 2020, Toews was traded to the Colorado Avalanche, where he became a key player alongside Cale Makar. He played a critical role in Colorado's Stanley Cup victory in 2022. Recognized for his strong defensive play, Toews signed a seven-year, $50.75 million contract extension in October 2023, securing his place with the Avalanche through the 2024-25 season.

His grandfather, John Toews, was born there before the family migrated from there. In 1948, they moved to Paraguay and later to Bolivia in 1953.
