Douglas Jonathan Hamilton is a Canadian ice hockey player playing as a defenseman for the New Jersey Devils in the National Hockey League (NHL), as of 2024. He was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the first round of the 2011 NHL Entry draft. Hamilton has played with multiple teams in the NHL including the Calgary Flames, Carolina Hurricanes, and the Boston Bruins. Dougie Hamilton debuted in the NHL on January 19, 2013, and scored his first NHL goal on February 15, 2013, earning the NESN 7th Player Award in April 2013. Hamilton was traded to the Calgary Flames in 2015 due to some salary cap issues and signed a six-year contract with the Flames for $34.5 million. He helped them reach the playoffs.

In 2018, Hamilton was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes. During the 2019-20 season, he faced some challenges due to an injury. However, he came back stronger in 2020. After completing his tenure successfully, he joined the New Jersey Devils in July 2021 and signed a seven-year contract with them worth $63 million.
