Edmonton Oilers vs Columbus Blue Jackets: Preview
The Edmonton Oilers are starting to turn a corner this season. The Oilers offense is starting to click, and the goaltending has been much better. Stuart Skinner will start against Columbus, while Calvin Pickard played well against Detroit.
"He gave us an opportunity to win in the first period," coach Kris Knoblauch said of Pickard's play, via NHL.com. "We had been out-played quite badly, giving up 13 shots, but I know their shot attempts were 28, and if you give up 28 shot attempts in 20 minutes, all at five-on-five, you are not doing much. We were sitting back and he made some key saves."
Columbus, meanwhile, is coming off a 4-3 OT loss to Nashville after a 6-2 blowout win over Toronto. The Blue Jackets' offense has been one of the best in the NHL, but the team's goaltending has been an issue. Coach Dean Evason said of his team's performance against Nashville, via NHL.com:
“For the most part, to be honest with you, we liked our game, like we liked how we played. We limited a lot of their opportunities. When we didn't turn it over, we were a really good hockey club. When we did, we were very, very average.”
The Blue Jackets will have their hands full against this potent Oilers offense which is starting to turn a corner.
Prediction: Oilers 5, Blue Jackets 2.
