Erik Cernak is a Slovakian professional ice hockey defenseman, currently playing for the Tampa Bay Lightning in the National Hockey League (NHL). Born on May 28, 1997, in Kosice, Slovakia, Cernak was selected 43rd overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft by the Los Angeles Kings.

Soon, on July 14, 2015, Cernak signed an three-year entry-level contract with the Kings, beginning his NHL journey. However, the Kings sent him to their AHL affiliate, the Ontario Reign. Despite impressive showings, he was sent to the Erie Otters of the OHL to continue his development. In a significant move on February 26, 2017, the Los Angeles Kings traded him to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Despite the trade, he was assigned to the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL.

Cernak made his NHL debut with the Lightning on November 13, 2018, in a game against the Buffalo Sabres. Just six days after his debut, he scored his first NHL point, showcasing his impact on the ice. His most notable achievements came during the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons, when he won consecutive Stanley Cups with the Lightning.

The following season, the Tampa Bay Lightning dominated one of the most successful franchises of the NHL, the Montreal Canadiens. Cernak contributed with 10 points across 21 games. The Lightning won the best-of-seven series, four to one, for his second consecutive championship.
