Evgeni Malkin is a Russian ice hockey professional who currently plays as an alternate captain for the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League (NHL). Malkin is also known as “Geno”. He was selected second overall in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins. His debut was delayed due to a dispute between the NHL and the International Ice Hockey Federation.

He finally debuted in 2006 and immediately dominated the league by his talent. Malkin won the Calder Memorial Trophy as the best rookie of the NHL after his debut season. He significantly contributed to the Penguins in the 2008 Stanley Cup where he helped his team in reaching the finals.

In 2009, he contributed to the 2009 Stanley Cup victory of the Pittsburgh Penguins where he was honoured with the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Most Valuable Player of the playoffs. In 2012, Malkin's stellar performance finally earned him the Hart Memorial Trophy and Ted Lindsay Award as the outstanding performer of the league. He again proved himself as the best player by winning the Art Ross Trophy again for his 12-point lead, the largest after 1999. His NHL highlights are the Stanley Cup victories for the two consecutive years. (in 2016 and 2017)

Evgeni Malkin was born on July 31, 1986, in the industrial city of Magnitogorsk, Russia to parents Vladimir and Natalia Malkin. His father Vladimir worked in the largest Iron and Steel industry and also played in the Metallurg Magnitogorsk youth and club hockey system. Malkin showed an interest in ice hockey from a very young age due to his father's influence. He possesses a natural talent for the sport and joined an organisation when he was just five. Apart from playing hockey, Malkin is a restaurateur and owns a restaurant in Magnitogorsk. He is married to Anna Kasterova, who is a well-known Russian television personality. Anna was born on September 21, 1084, in Zelenograd, Russia. She has worked as an editor for a Russian news show. In November 2017, Malkin supported the PutinTeam social movement which his Russian NHL fellow Alex Ovechkin started to support the Russian president Vladimir Putin during the 2018 Russian presidential election.

Malkin started his hockey career in his hometown Magnitigorsk with the Metallurg Magnitogorsk hockey program. Then he scaled to the Russian Superleague in the 2003-2004 season in a junior team. He also represented his country Russia on an international platform in the 2003 U18 World Championship.
