We are currently in the third week of the 2023-24 NHL season, and some goalies are standing out as the best while others are struggling. As a fantasy hockey team, it is crucial to have a good goalie as they can make all the difference in whether you win or lose your week.
Let's take a look at the three best goalie and two goalies to stay away from.
Best fantasy hockey goalies for Week 3
#1 Linus Ullmark, Boston Bruins
Linus Ullmark is the reigning Vezina winner and he is backing his play up to begin the season for the Boston Bruins.
In three starts, Ullmark is 3-0 with a 1.00 GAA and a .962 SV%. Ullmark likely slid in fantasy drafts due to the Boston Bruins not expecting to be as good as last year, but Ullmark looks like he's in for another dominant year.
#2 Alexander Georgiev, Colorado Avalanche
In fantasy hockey, selecting a good goalie on a great team should lead to success and that is the case with Alexander Georgiev.
Georgiev is 5-0 with a 1.58 GAA and a .943 SV% along with a shutout this season. He's been arguably the best goalie in fantasy hockey and with how good the Colorado Avalanche are, he will remain at the top.
#3 Jake Oettinger, Dallas Stars
Jake Oettinger was one of the best goalies in the NHL last season and he has picked up where he left off. The Dallas Stars goaltender is a workhorse and will be right near the top for most starts this season.
To begin the year, Oettinger is 2-0-1 with a 1.58 GAA and a .943 SV%. Dallas is also one of the best teams in the NHL so he will remain a top goalie for fantasy hockey.
Worst goalies for fantasy hockey
#1 Ilya Samsonov, Toronto Maple Leafs
Ilya Samsonov entered this season as the Toronto Maple Leafs starting goaltender and many felt that he would do well in fantasy hockey, given the team he is on.
However, through two weeks, Samsonov has been one of the worst goalies in the NHL and has now lost the net to Joseph Woll. Samsonov is 2-1 with a 4.34 GAA and a .831 SV% and when he will get the net back is uncertain.
#2 Stuart Skinner, Edmonton Oilers
The Edmonton Oilers had a major question mark in goal to begin the year. Stuart Skinner started the year as the backup but after Jack Campbell got pulled in the first game, he was given the chance to be the starter.
Skinner has struggled, going 0-1-1 with a 4.29 GAA and .814 SV%. He lost the net to Campbell.
