The Florida Panthers compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a part of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. Moreover, they were stablished in 1993 and set the record for the most points by an expansion team in their inaugural season, a record that stood until 2017–18 when it was broken by the Vegas Golden Knights.
They are presently based in the Miami Metropolitan area and initially played their home games at Miami Arena before relocating to the Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida, in 1998. Matter of factly, the Panthers are owned by Sunrise Sports and Entertainment while Bally Sports Florida takes care of their broadcasting. They also have two minor league affiliates: the Charlotte Checkers in the American Hockey League (AHL) and the Florida Everblades in the ECHL. Notable players to have represented the Panthers over the years include, Brian Skrudland, Scott Mellanby, Pavel Bure, Olli Jokinen, Rob Niedermayer, Marcus Nilson, Aaron Ekblad and current team captain Aleksander Barkov.
Florida Panthers Stanley Cup History
The Florida Panthers have not won any Stanley Cup championships till date. However, they reached the finals twice, first in 1996, where they were defeated by the Colorado Avalanche, and again in 2023, where they lost to the Vegas Golden Knights.
Between 1996 and 2020, the team struggled to make the playoffs, securing a spot only five times in 24 years with a notable absence of ten years between 2000-01 till 2010-11. However, a revival in form has seen them become regulars in the playoffs for the past five seasons. Recently, the Panthers finished first in the Atlantic Division with 110 points and secured a place in the 2024 Stanley Cup playoffs. Florida Panthers Conference Championship History
The Florida Panthers have achieved two conference victories till date, with both of those victories coming in the 1995–96 and 2022–23 seasons respectively. Looking back to the 1995-96 season, they finished the regular season with a record of 41-31-10 and were 3rd in the Atlantic Division. Their postseason run saw them defeat the Tampa Bay Lighting, Philadelphia Flyers, and the Pittsburgh Penguins to reach the Stanley Cup Finals in just their third season of existence. However, they fell short against the Colorado Avalanche in the Stanley Cup finals. Nonetheless, their Eastern Conference Championship victory solidified their place as one of the upcoming promising teams in the league. The subsequent seasons saw them lose in the quarterfinals with many periods of absence in between them. Their next playoff appearance came in the 2011-12 season, where they reached the conference quarterfinals again, but ended up losing the series to the New Jersey Devils in a thrilling seven-game series. Remarkably, they saw resurgence in the early 2020s which has seen them make five continuous playoff appearances.
In 2022-23, the Florida Panthers again reached the Stanley Cup finals. However, they again fell short, this time to the Vegas Golden Knights in a five-game series. Moreover, they defeated the Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs and Carolina Hurricanes to reach the finals.
