Frederick L'Ecuyer, born on July 28, 1977, is a Canadian ice hockey referee currently working for the National Hockey League (NHL). Since the beginning of the 2010-11 NHL season, he has consistently worn uniform number #17. Frederick L'Ecuyer transitioned from a centerman to a referee at 16, using his exceptional skating skills to quickly advance in provincial leagues. Mentored by Luc Durand, a respected St-Tite hockey official, L'Ecuyer's solid start in officiating led to roles in the Quebec Provincial leagues and promotion to the QHJML as a linesman in August 1999. In the summer of 2000, the QHJML elevated him to a full-time referee at the age of 23.

In July 2001, L'Ecuyer received an invitation to the NHL Officiating Prospect Camp held in Guelph, Ontario. He returned to the QHJML the following season and was invited again to the prospect invitational the subsequent summer where the NHL officiating personnel noticed him and convinced him to move to Texas to gain professional hockey experience in the now-defunct Central Hockey League (CHL). Over four full seasons in the CHL (2002-2006), he worked the 2005 CHL All-Star Game in Laredo, Texas, and the CHL Finals in his final three seasons (2004, 2005 & 2006). Making his American Hockey League debut in the 2002-03 season, primarily working in the CHL, L'Ecuyer was hired by the National Hockey League under a minor leagues referee contract in the summer of 2006. He earned a promotion to full-time NHL referee status in the summer of 2010, acknowledged by NHL Director of Officiating Terry Gregson.

Frederick L'Ecuyer marked his first appearance in the NHL on October 13, 2007, officiating the game between the New York Islanders and the Toronto Maple Leafs. His playoff debut occurred on April 16, 2015, overseeing the matchup between the Detroit Red Wings and the Tampa Bay Lightning. L'Ecuyer's officiating prowess extended to outdoor games, notably contributing to the 2022 Stadium Series held at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee, on February 26, 2022.
