
The NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Championship is an annual tournament. It determines the national champion among college hockey teams in the United States. There are 41 NCAA schools with Division I Men’s Ice Hockey teams, supporting over 1,200 athletes.
The 2025 championship includes 16 teams in a single-elimination format. Six teams qualify automatically as conference champions. Ten are selected at-large by the selection committee. Four teams are seeded and assigned to different regional sites. Each region has four teams. Winners move to the Frozen Four.
Frozen Four Schedule
The 2025 Frozen Four begins on Wednesday, April 9, with open practices from 11:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, as per the NCAA. On Thursday, April 10, Frozen Fest kicks off at 2:00 p.m. at St. Louis Union Station, with team welcomes held at 2:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. outside the Enterprise Center.
Arena doors open at 2:30 p.m. The first national semifinal between Denver and Western Michigan is scheduled for 4:00 p.m., followed by the second semifinal between Penn State and Boston University at 7:30 p.m. Frozen Fest closes at 7:00 p.m.
On Friday, April 11, the Hobey Baker Award Ceremony takes place at 5:00 p.m. at the Stifel Theatre. Championship day is Saturday, April 12, beginning with Frozen Fest reopening at 12:00 p.m.
The final team welcome is at 4:30 p.m., and doors to the Enterprise Center open at 5:00 p.m. The National Championship game starts at 6:30 p.m., followed by the championship trophy presentation at the conclusion of the match.
