New York Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin addressed the media following the team’s practice Monday morning, breaking his silence about a new eight-year, $92 million contract extension.
Shesterkin expressed to reporters how relieved he was the negotiations are over, and how he can now move on and focus on playing hockey.
“It was pretty tough weekends for me, I’m through with it, I’m happy it’s done and I can focus on my game.”
Shesterkin expanded on how much it means for him to be a Ranger for the foreseeable future.
“It means a lot for me. I just want to thank… the entire Rangers organization for making it happen. Just, will try my best. I will try to bring a Cup back to New York.”
Shesterkin also extended his gratitude to the fans.
“Just want to thank all Rangers fans because their support was so hard. We all play for them, We all play for his families.”
Sheskterkin and the Rangers will take on the Chicago Blackhawks at Madison Square Garden Monday night.
The Rangers are fourth in the Metro Division, tied with the New York Islanders. However, the Rangers hold claim to one of the Eastern Conference wildcard spots on the strength of their regular season wins.
While there is still plenty of hockey to be played, Shesterkin and the Rangers' up-and-down season has been somewhat surprising. Still, the Rangers control their destiny.
