Ilya Igorevich Sorokin, born on August 4, 1995, is a Russian professional ice hockey goaltender currently playing for the New York Islanders in the National Hockey League (NHL). Selected by the Islanders in the third round (78th overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, Sorokin has had a remarkable career trajectory till now.

Sorokin began his youth hockey with Vympel Mezhdurechensk before joining KHL club Metallurg Novokuznetsk at the age of 17 in 2012. His professional debut occurred during the 2012–13 season with Novokuznetsk. After two promising seasons with Novokuznetsk, Sorokin was drafted by the New York Islanders in 2014. In the 2014–15 season, while with Metallurg Novokuznetsk, Sorokin played 22 games before being traded to CSKA Moscow in December 2014. He continued to shine with CSKA Moscow, winning the Gagarin Cup in 2019 and earning the MVP title in the 2019 Gagarin Cup playoffs. On July 13, 2020, Sorokin signed a one-year, entry-level contract with the New York Islanders. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he couldn't feature in the Return to Play phase. His entry-level contract was nullified, but Sorokin signed a one-year, $2 million contract extension for the 2020–21 season.

Sorokin made his NHL debut on January 16, 2021, against the New York Rangers and secured his first NHL win and shutout on February 16, 2021, against the Buffalo Sabres. During the Stanley Cup playoffs, Sorokin played a crucial role, winning games in the first round against the Pittsburgh Penguins. On September 1, 2021, Sorokin re-signed with the Islanders to a three-year, $12 million contract. The following season, he achieved a remarkable 31–22–7 record with a .924 save percentage and six shutouts, earning him a finalist spot for the Vezina Trophy. Sorokin's stellar performance was instrumental in the Islanders qualifying for the 2023 Stanley Cup playoffs, although they were eliminated in the first round.
