Guentzel's winning goals in Games 1 and 2 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Nashville Predators helped secure the Penguins' status as the first repeat champions in 19 years. However, Guentzel's time with the Penguins ended on March 7, 2024, when he was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes along with Ty Smith. In exchange, the Penguins acquired Michael Bunting, Vasily Ponomarev, Ville Koivunen, and Cruz Lucius, a conditional first-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, and a conditional fifth-round pick in the same draft. On June 30, 2024, he was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
