James van Riemsdyk is an American professional ice hockey left winger for the Columbus Blue Jackets of the NHL. Born on May 4, 1989, in Middletown, New Jersey, he played minor ice hockey in his hometown before joining the USA Hockey National Team Development Program. He later played two seasons of college hockey at the University of New Hampshire before signing an entry-level contract with the Philadelphia Flyers in 2009.

Van Riemsdyk was drafted second overall by the Flyers in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, just behind his friend Patrick Kane. In 2012, van Riemsdyk was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he played until 2018. He set career-high records, with 36 goals during the 2017–18 season and 62 points during the 2016–17 NHL season with the Leafs. Throughout his career, van Riemsdyk has achieved numerous milestones, including scoring his 200th NHL goal and the 20,000th goal in Maple Leafs' history. In 2021, he reached 500 career NHL points.
