Jan Rutta is a Czech professional ice hockey defenseman playing for the San Jose Sharks in the National Hockey League (NHL). Known for his exceptional defensive skills on the ice, Rutta has played for the Tampa Bay Lightning, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Chicago Blackhawks in the NHL.

He started his journey in his homeland where he honed his skills, playing with Piráti Chomutov during the 2012–13 season. Rutta showcased his impressive defensive skills during his tenure with Chomutov. In 2017, his professional journey took a significant turn, joining the Chicago Blackhawks in the NHL. He did well in the training camp of the Blackhawks, and earned a spot in the opening night roster for the 2017-18 season. Rutta quickly made his impact in the league, scoring his first NHL goal against the Toronto Maple Leafs on 9 October that year. He scored 6 goals and assisted 14 goals during his rookie season.

His presence in the team helped the Tampa Bay Lightning scale through the rounds where they defeated the Dallas Stars to win the prestigious Stanley Cup.

The following season, Rutta again proved himself and his performance reached new heights. His solid defensive play and positioning strategy were impressive. The Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the strong Montreal Canadiens and won the Stanley Cup for the second consecutive season.
