Jared Bednar is a Canadian former ice hockey player turned coach. He is currently serving as a head coach for the Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey League. Born on February 28, 1972, Bednar had a remarkable career in the NHL as a player.

Bednar has achieved many milestones in his coaching career, he led the Colorado Avalanche to winning the prestigious Stanley Cup in 2022 and became the first coach to win three championships in the ECHL Kelly, AHL Calder, and NHL Stanley. Bednar signed with the Colorado Avalanche as a head coach on August 25, 2016 and is still serving them as a head coach.

Bednar started his hockey career in WHL and played junior hockey with them and progressed to the ECHL with Huntington Blizzard. He later joined the South Carolina Stingrays in the AHL and spent most of the seasons with them and retired from playing in 2002.

Jared Bednar’s Journey to Becoming an NHL Coach

Transitioned to coach, Jared Bednar became an assistant coach for the South Carolina Stingrays in 2000 and played with them for the 1999–2000 season and head coach for the following season. He won the Kelly Cup in his season with them. Then he joined the Abbotsford Heat in the AHL as an assistant coach. He later joined the Columbus Blue Jackets AHL affiliate team Springfield Falcons. They shifted their affiliation to the Lake Erie Monsters with Jared who ultimately led them to win the Calder Cup in 2016.

In 2016, Bednar took the role of head coach for the struggling Colorado Avalanche in the NHL. Initially, they faced some challenges but Bednar took the responsibility of improving the performance. In his third season with the Avalanche, they made back-to-back playoff appearances, reaching the second round of the Stanley Cup. In 2021-2022, they marked their victory by setting the franchise record for 119 points and claimed their third Stanley Cup by defeating the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Finals.

Bednar has achieved notable success in his coaching career from taking the role of head coach for the struggling team to guiding them to claim the Stanley Cup. His journey from ECHL to the Biggest stage of the NHL is a result of his hard work and consistency.
