Jordan Staal, born on September 10, 1988, is a Canadian professional ice hockey center who currently serves as the captain of the Carolina Hurricanes in the National Hockey League (NHL). Known for his exceptional abilities and skill as a two-way forward, Staal made history in 2007 by becoming the youngest player ever to score a hat trick in league history at the age of 18 years and 153 days.

Staal signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Penguins on October 2, 2006, and swiftly transitioned from junior hockey to the NHL at 18 during the 2006-07 season. In one memorable game against the New York Rangers on October 12, he scored his inaugural NHL goal, a shorthanded breakaway shot against goaltender Henrik Lundqvist in a 6-5 victory. Following several successful seasons with the Penguins, Staal was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes on June 22, 2012, in exchange for Brandon Sutter, Brain Dumoulin, and the Hurricanes’ eight overall pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. Soon after, he signed a lucrative ten-year, $60 million contract extension with the Hurricanes on July 1, 2012, turning down a similar offer from the Pittsburgh Penguins.
