Kevin Shattenkirk is an American professional ice hockey defenseman and a 2020 Stanley Cup champion. Born January 29, 1989, he was selected 14th overall in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the Colorado Avalanche, he has played for several NHL teams, including the Avalanche, St. Louis Blues, New York Rangers, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Boston Bruins.

Kevin Shattenkirks parents

Kevin Shattenkirk’s parents are Pat and Barbara Shattenkirk. They played a significant role in shaping his character and values. Barbara Shattenkirk worked as a schoolteacher at Iona Prep Lower School in New Rochelle since 1995, while Patrick Shattenkirk is an investment banker and Brown University alumnus. His mother’s profession especially influenced his early education, as Shattenkirk and his two brothers attended the Catholic school where she taught.

Shattenkirk’s journey to becoming a professional hockey player began in his hometown of New Rochelle, New York, where he grew up with a deep love for the sport. His passion for hockey was fueled by watching the New York Rangers, his favorite team, practice at a nearby ice rink in Rye. One of his idols was Brian Leetch, the legendary Rangers defenseman whose smooth skating and puck-handling skills inspired young Kevin.

Barbara Shattenkirk’s memorable moment is “hockey juju," hiding a childhood photo of Kevin Shattenkirk kissing the Stanley Cup during a visit to the Hockey Hall of Fame, a superstition considered bad luck. She kept the photo a secret until Shattenkirk won the Stanley Cup with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020, finally revealing it as a cherished connection between his childhood dreams and his professional success.

Kevin Shattenkirk brought the Stanley Cup back to his hometown in 2021, one of his stops was Iona Prep, where Barbara had taught for over 20 years. It was a proud moment for her.

A natural leader, he captained the hockey team in his senior year and was recognized with the Angier Hockey Award for his contributions. The couple began dating long before Kevin’s rise to NHL stardom and tied the knot in July 2018 in a beautiful ceremony at the Wölffer Estate Vineyard in Sagaponack, New York. Deanna has often been by Kevin’s side during key moments, including his 2020 Stanley Cup victory with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
