Liam O'Brien is a Canadian ice hockey professional who plays as a forward for the Arizona Coyotes in the National Hockey League (NHL). Born on July 29, 1994, he is also known as "Enforcer". Liam O'Brien initially developed an interest in skating and nurtured his skills in his hometown. He then started playing in Montreal gaining valuable experience. He then experienced hockey at various locations including Halifax, Wilcox in Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, and Toronto, each place he contributed and developed his skills.


He was drafted 10th overall by the Rimouski Oceanic of the QMJHL during the 2010 QMJHL Draft. During his time in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League he also played for the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies before O'Brien decided to pursue his career in the National Hockey League.


He received a training camp invite by the Washington Capitals which ultimately lead to a three-year entry level contract with them.

Liam O'Brien's NHL career

Liam O'Brien started his professional hockey journey when he was drafted in the 1st round (10th overall pick) in the 2010 QMJHL Draft by the Rimouski Oceanic. He made an impact in the league with his first goal in the second game against the Lewiston Maineiacs. He continued his junior career with Oceanic till 2010 and then he was traded to Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. He got his NHL selection from the Washington Capitals from rookie camp in 2014. He signed a three-year entry-level contract with them on October 6, 2014, worth $1,925,000, and made his NHL debut on October 9, 2014, and played his first game against the Montreal Canadiens.


On June 10, 2019, O'Brien signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Washington Capitals. After completing the contract, he left the Washington Capitals as a free agent and signed a contract with the Colorado Avalanche's AHL affiliate team Colorado Eagles on November 27, 2020. O'Brien immediately made his name in the AHL by contributing 8 points in just 12 games played and secured a one-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche in the NHL on March 30, 2021.


Liam O'Brien returned to the NHL with the Avalanche almost after three years where he played his first game against the St. Louis Blues on April 2, 2021, and claimed victory. He continued to impress with his performance, scoring 2 assists in a 4-3 victory against the Blues on April 14, 2021. He finished the season with an impressive 3 assists and 40 penalty minutes in just 12 games. As a free agent, Liam O'Brien signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Arizona Coyotes on July 28, 2021, beginning a new chapter in his career. He is yet to show his best performances in his upcoming seasons in the NHL.
