Edmonton Oilers FAQ's
The highest the Oilers have picked is first overall, which they did on three successive occasions between 2010 and 2012 and, most recently, 2015. They selected Taylor Hall (2010), Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (2011), Nail Yakupov (2012), and Connor McDavid (2015).
The Anaheim Ducks have the Oilers' first-round pick from the trade for forwards Adam Henrique and Sam Carrick on March 6. The Ducks also have the No. 3 selection. In addition to the Flyers and Ducks, the Sharks, Blackhawks, Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators, and Calgary Flames each have two first-round picks.
The Oilers selected him first overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. McDavid is considered one of the best players in the world, and his offensive dominance has drawn comparisons to players such as Sidney Crosby and Wayne Gretzky.
The Coyotes struggled during Gretzky's tenure, and he resigned as head coach in 2009, which was the same year in which he lost his ownership stake when the team filed for bankruptcy and was subsequently purchased by the NHL. In 2016 he returned to the Oilers franchise as a partner and vice chairman.
