Luke Hughes is an American defenseman who plays for the New Jersey Devils in the National Hockey League (NHL). He played two seasons of college hockey with the Michigan Wolverines. He helped his college team reach the NCAA Frozen Four in both the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons. He was selected fourth overall by the Devils in the 2021 NHL entry draft, according to the NHL's official website.

After penning a three-year entry-level contract with the New Jersey Devils on April 8, 2023, Hughes made his NHL debut on April 11, 2023 against the Buffalo Sabres. He quickly made an impact as he scored his first NHL goal in his second game. In the 2023-24 season, he set a franchise record for points by a rookie defenseman. He also led in several categories, including power-play points and takeaways, and was a finalist for the 2024 Calder Memorial Trophy, as per the aforementioned website.

Before joining the Canucks, Hughes played for University of Michigan in the 2017-18 season, where he set a record for most assists by a freshman defenseman. Internationally, he represented the United States at both the 2018 and 2019 World Junior Championships and made his senior national team debut at the 2018 IIHF World Championship, contributing to a bronze medal victory, as per reports.

Jack Hughes

Jack Hughes is a center for the New Jersey Devils in the NHL, as of April 2025. He was the first overall pick in the 2019 NHL draft and penned a three-year entry-level contract with the team shortly after. He recorded his first NHL point on October 17, 2019, becoming the third-youngest player in the franchise's history to achieve the milestone, and scored his first goal against his brother Quinn on October 19, 2019. Jack earned his first NHL All-Star selection in the 2021-22 season and achieved a career-high of 43 goals and 56 assists for 99 points the following season. Hughes was named to his third consecutive All-Star Game in January 2024 and recorded his 100th NHL goal in December 2023, as per reports.
