Matthew Tkachuk, who was recently proclaimed the MVP of Honda NHL All-Star 2023, received special support while showcasing his skills in the competition. That special person was Tkachuk's grandmother.
She was there to cheer on both her grandchildren (Matthew and Brady) at Sunrise, Florida, on Saturday at the NHL All-Star competition. Her name is Geraldine Tkachuk, and she is 75 years old. Still, she traveled all the way from North America to South Florida to watch the brothers play.
Both the brothers are exceptionally skilled, with Matthew playing for the Florida Panthers and Brady Tkachuk for the Ottawa Senators.
They competed against some of the biggest names in the NHL, such as Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby.
Here's what Brady had to say about his grandmother:
"She wasn't going to be left behind, she's always there. She wants to experience all those special moments with her family."
He also added:
"You know, she and the entire family have done so much for us, and just to share these special moments with her, with them, was amazing."
Matthew Tkachuk's NHL All-Star performance
Matthew Tkachuk was perhaps in his best form in the game between the Atlantic Division and Central Division, which was being played at the FLA Live Arena. His team (Atlantic Division) was able to secure a 7-5 win over the Central Division with Matthew Tkachuk scoring a goal and an assist. This is how the Atlantic won the Finals of the NHL All-Star weekend.
But what was more interesting was the performance Matthew Tkachuk delivered in the game against the Metropolitan Division in the semifinals. His team secured a 10-6 win with Tkachuk scoring three goals and two assists.
Tkachuk's five-point performance received quite some appreciation as this was against a team in which two NHL legends were present. Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin were part of the opposing team.
Matthews and Brady Tkachuk's father
Some of you may be familiar with Keith Tkachuk, a former NHL player and father of the Tkachuk brothers.
In his career, he played in 19 NHL seasons from 1991-2010 and in this time span played in 1,201 games. He scored 1,065 points which include 538 goals and 527 assists. He played for NHL teams such as the Winnipeg Jets and the St. Louis Blues.
