Mika Zibanejad is the alternate captain for the New York Rangers, as of January 2025. He is a Swedish professional ice hockey center who made his NHL debut in the 2011-12 season but was reassigned to Djurgården after nine games. After five seasons with Ottawa, he was traded to the Rangers in 2016.

Zibanejad has represented Sweden internationally, winning gold at the 2018 IIHF World Championship. Besides hockey, he is a DJ and music producer, releasing five songs since 2017 and performing at festivals like Summerburst and Lollapalooza Stockholm.

Ottawa Senators (2011-2016)

Mika Zibanejad was drafted by the Senators in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft (first round, sixth overall). He made his NHL debut with the Senators on October 7, 2011, in a game against the Buffalo Sabres. During his rookie season, Zibanejad played nine games for the Senators, recording one assist. Due to the NHL lockout, Zibanejad spent the 2012-13 season with the Binghamton Senators, the Senators’ AHL affiliate. In 23 games with Binghamton, he scored four goals and registered seven assists.

Zibanejad was recalled to the NHL on January 28, 2013, and returned to the Ottawa lineup on January 29, 2013, against the Washington Capitals. In the 2014-15 season, Zibanejad had a breakout year, scoring 20 goals and adding 26 assists in 80 games, marking his first 20-goal season in the NHL. The following year, 2015-16, Zibanejad enjoyed another productive campaign with Ottawa, registering 21 goals and 30 assists in 81 games.

New York Rangers (2016-present)

On July 18, 2016, Mika Zibanejad was traded to the New York Rangers from the Ottawa Senators in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. He was traded in exchange for Derick Brassard and a seventh-round pick. In his first season with the Rangers (2016-17), Zibanejad scored 14 goals and registered 23 assists in 56 games.

During the 2018-19 season, Zibanejad reached a career milestone, scoring 30 goals and adding 44 assists in 82 games. His performance in the 2019-20 season was even more impressive, with Zibanejad scoring 41 goals and adding 34 assists in just 57 games. He also helped lead the Rangers into the NHL playoffs, where they reached the Eastern Conference Preliminary Round.

On October 10, 2021, Zibanejad signed an eight-year, $68 million contract extension with the Rangers. That same year, he was named an alternate captain for the team. Zibanejad continued to shine during the 2021-22 season, recording three assists, including his 500th career NHL point, during a 5-1 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins on March 25, 2022. He also played in the playoffs, helping the Rangers reach the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

On October 17, 2022, he scored two goals and four points in a 6-4 win against the Anaheim Ducks. In March 2023, he was named one of the NHL's three stars of the week after scoring five goals and registering nine points in four games. Zibanejad finished the regular season leading the Rangers with 39 goals and placing second with 91 points. The Rangers faced the New Jersey Devils in the playoffs, and Zibanejad scored a goal and registered two points in Game 6, helping to force a Game 7. However, the Rangers were eliminated in the next game.
