Mitchell Marner is a Canadian professional ice hockey player serving as the right winger and alternate captain for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League (NHL). He was picked fourth overall by the Maple Leafs in the 2015 NHL entry draft and made his debut during the 2016-17 season. The 2018–19 season saw Marner record notable achievements, including a four-point game and his 200th NHL assist. He finished the regular season as the team's leading scorer, crossing the 90-point mark. Signing a six-year contract in 2019, Marner started the 2019–20 season as an alternate captain. He earned his first NHL All-Star Game selection and reached milestones in points and assists during the regular season.

Entering the 2022–23 season, Marner continued his success, leading the team in scoring and achieving a franchise-best 23-game point streak. Despite falling just short of 100 points, he earned a nomination for the Frank J. Selke Trophy. The Leafs finished fourth in the league, setting up a playoff clash with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Marner's outstanding performance contributed to the Leafs winning their first playoff series since 2004.
