No. 1, Lane Hutson

Lane Hutson made his NHL debut last season, as he left Boston University to turn pro and got into two games last year for the Canadiens.

Hutson is a solid, puck-moving defenseman who should have a big role with Montreal this season. He's projected to be on the Canadiens' second-pairing entering the year and will get power-play time.

In 38 games at BU last season, Hutson recorded 15 goals and 34 assists for 49 points.

No. 2, Joshua Roy

Joshua Roy played in 23 NHL games last season

Montreal selected Joshua Roy with the 150th overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft. Roy wasn't considered a top prospect, but now he is, and he could have a big role with the Canadiens in the 2024/25 NHL season.

Roy was a key member of Team Canada which won world junior gold in 2023 and 2024. Last season, he got into 23 games with the Canadiens, recording four goals and five assists for nine points. Roy may not break camp with the team, but he will likely play games in Montreal next season.

Logan Mailloux was a first-round pick of the Canadiens in 2021, and he will likely get into NHL games this season.

Mailloux appeared in one game last season, and although the Canadiens are deep on defense, he would be one injury away from a call-up.
