He was born on July 20, 1998, in Strathclair, Manitoba, Canada and began his career with the Yellowhead Chiefs of the Manitoba U-18 'AAA' Hockey League (MMHL) before signing a contract with the Tri-City Americans of the Western Hockey League (WHL). Remarkably, he also had stint with the Neepawa Natives of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) around the same time. He then proceeded with his professional career after getting drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the third round as the 67th overall pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.
