Nathan MacKinnon is an ice hockey player in the NHL, playing with the Colorado Avalanche. He was born on September 1, 1995, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He played in the Bantam AAA at the age of 12. MacKinnon played with Cole Harbour's minor ice hockey league where he collected 200 points in just 50 games. He played two seasons for the Cole Harbour Red Wings.

The Colorado Avalanche selected him first overall in the 2013 NHL Entry draft. He made his NHL debut on October 2, 2013, and became the youngest player in a regular season game for the Avalanche. The period between 2017 to 2020 earned MacKinnon the highest praise for his performances as he made the NHL All-Star game every season.

Nathan MacKinnon’s Stanley Cup win

As of January 2025, Nathan MacKinnon has won the Stanley Cup once. He won the Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 2022. During the 2022 playoffs, MacKinnon scored 13 goals and recorded 24 points across 20 games as per Hockey Reference, helping the Avalanche secure their third Stanley Cup in franchise history.

In 2024, Nathan MacKinnon won both the Hart Memorial Trophy and the Ted Lindsay Award. MacKinnon set a new franchise record with 140 points (51 goals, 89 assists. His performance earned him First All-Star Team honors and marked his seventh All-Star Game selection. MacKinnon also reached the 1,000-point milestone (regular season and playoffs combined) during the 2023-24 season.

Nathan MacKinnon’s Awards

Nathan MacKinnon has earned numerous awards throughout his career. In the CHL/QMJHL, he won the Ed Chynoweth Trophy, Stafford Smythe Memorial Trophy, and Memorial Cup in 2013, also being named to the Memorial Cup All-Star team that year.

In the NHL, MacKinnon won the Calder Memorial Trophy and made the All-Rookie Team in 2014. As of 2024, he has been selected for the NHL All-Star Game multiple times (2017–2024) and named to the Second All-Star Team twice (2018, 2020). He received the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy in 2020 and became a Stanley Cup champion in 2022.
