The New Jersey Devils, a professional ice hockey team, based in Newark, New Jersey, adopted their name inspired by the Jersey Devil legend. The franchise was known as the Kansas City Scouts during their inception in 1974. They moved to Denver and were known as the Colorado Rockies in 1976 before settling in New Jersey in 1982. The Devils initially played at the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford before moving to the Prudential Center in Newark in 2007.
The Devils are owned by Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, led by Josh Harris and David Blitzer, who purchased the team in 2013. Under Lou Lamoriello’s leadership, they earned 13 straight postseason berths from 1997 to 2010. The Devils have won three Stanley Cups (1994–95, 1999–2000, 2002–03). They share rivalries with the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers and are the only major league team representing New Jersey since 2012.
