The New Jersey Devils have lost back-to-back games despite scoring five goals in both. New Jersey has a potent offense but its goaltending has struggled in the last two games.
"I thought when they had the puck they made a ton of plays and really stressed us defensively," New Jersey coach Sheldon Keefe said about the loss to Tampa Bay, via NHL.com. "We were on our half of the ice too much and struggled on our breakouts."
Jacob Markstrom should be much better here as he's 5-2-1 with a 1.86 GAA and a .935 SV% in his career against Detroit.
The Red Wings, meanwhile, have won back-to-back games and aren't giving up many chances. Detroit has allowed just 17 goals against, which is ninth-best in the NHL.
However, the knock on the Red Wings' offense has been an issue as Detroit is averaging just 25.33 shots per game which is dead last in the NHL.
Devils vs Red Wings: Odds & Prediction
New Jersey is a -155 favorite while Detroit is a +130 underdog, with the over/under set at 6.5 goals.
The Devils should play much better defensively in this spot as Detroit is struggling to produce much offense to begin the season. Meanwhile, New Jersey's potent offense should come alive here as the Red Wings goaltending is still a concern, as they have struggled against good offenses.
Expect New Jersey to get out to an early lead and hold on to get back into the win column.
