Last year, the New York Rangers finished the regular season with the best record in the Metropolitan Division. They finished a whole three games ahead of the second-placed Carolina Hurricanes.
In the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the team then picked up a first-round sweep over the Washington Capitals, before defeating the Hurricanes in the second round.
In the Eastern Conference Finals, the team wound up falling to the Florida Panthers, whom they struggled to match the physicality of.
Following the end of the season, GM Chris Drury set his sights on bolstering the franchise's roster. However, that being said, the team currently has one of the worst prospect pools in the league.
Despite their prospect group as a whole being underwhelming, there are still some diamonds in the rough who could make waves in the years to come.
Three New York Rangers prospects to keep an eye out for in the 2024-25 season
#1 Brennan Othmann - LW
Drafted as the 16th overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, Brennan Othmann spent most of last year developing in the AHL. After earning First All-Rookie Team honors in the OHL during the 2020 season, Othmann made his AHL debut last season, logging 49 points in 67 games.
As a result, he wound up making his NHL debut for the New York Rangers over a three-game span. Despite his lack of production during his brief NHL stint, there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic about his future when looking at his stats in the AHL and the OHL.
#2 Brett Berard - LW
Despite being undersized for the NHL, Brett Berard has exceeded expectations while developing in the AHL. After playing for Providence College for three seasons, he played a full season in the AHL last year with the Hartford Wolf Pack, where he logged 48 points in 71 games.
This season, the expectation is that Berard will primarily play in the AHL. However, much like Brennan Othmann last season, he could wind up having some limited playing time with the New York Rangers this year.
#3 Dyland Garand - G
A netminder who could very well be the New York Rangers' goalie of the future, Dyland Garand will certainly be a prospect to keep an eye on this season. The 22-year-old is fresh off back-to-back seasons with the Hartford Wolf Pack in the AHL, where he posted an average save percentage of 89.6%.
With Igor Shesterkin and Jonathan Quick set to handle goaltending duties this season, it's unlikely that Garand will get a lot of opportunities to play with the Rangers this season. However, he could wind up receiving limited looks throughout the year while primarily playing in the AHL.
