Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Brent Burns is known for his unique personality on and off the ice. Yesterday, Sportsnet reporter Dan Murphy shared a funny story about Burns that proves it once again.
Dan Murphy shared a story through a series of tweets on X. He started by questioning,
"What did the Hurricanes do for a post game meal Saturday night after their plane broke down and they had to bus from Seattle to Vancouver?"
Murphy shared the further story in the tweets that followed.
After the Carolina Hurricanes' game against the Seattle Kraken on Saturday, the team was ready to fly to Vancouver. But their plane had a problem and couldn't take off. Instead, the team had to take a long bus ride to Vancouver. Normally, the players eat on the plane after games, but this change in plans left them hungry.
Burns decided to solve the problem. He opened the McDonald’s app and placed a big order for his teammates. The pickup location was a McDonald’s in Everett. However, when the team arrived, they found the lobby was closed, so they couldn’t go inside. The drive-thru was still open, but only for people in cars.
Burns tried to walk through the drive-thru, but an employee told him he needed a car. So, he came up with a new idea. He went up to a stranger’s car and asked the driver to help him out. Murphy questioned, "Imagine this dude knocking on your car window" in the middle of the night.
Luckily, the driver agreed to help. Murphy shared that Burns got his order,
"Anyway. Mission accomplished. (Burns) Got his order. Not sure what it was, but 100 cheeseburgers has been rumoured."
When Murphy asked about the cheeseburgers, Brent Burns just smiled and said he only eats lean meats like elk and venison.
Murphy tried to get Burns to tell the story on camera, but Burns simply laughed and said,
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Burns’ quick thinking made sure his teammates didn’t go hungry on their way to Vancouver and the Carolina Hurricanes locker room has another story to reminisce.
Brent Burns and team were returning after a win over Kraken
The Carolina Hurricanes won the game 4-1 over the Kraken, with Brent Burns earning an assist and taking five shots on goal.
Carolina’s scoring started with Andrei Svechnikov’s power-play goal in the first period, with assists from Martin Necas and Seth Jarvis. Jack Drury made it 2-0 in the second period, helped by Jesper Blake and Burns. Seattle’s Jared McCann scored in the third, but Seth Jarvis answered with a backhand goal to make it 3-1. Dmitry Orlov’s empty-net goal in the final minutes sealed Carolina’s 4-1 win.
After a slow start to the season, Brent Burns now has three assists. Through eight games, he’s added 19 shots and a -1 plus-minus rating, playing steady minutes at even strength.
