"This is exactly what the game is trying to eliminate. Nurse needs to refrain from touching people in such a vulnerable position. More than likely and in person hearing with player safety tmw," a fan tweeted.

While some fans were critical of Nurse's actions, others tried to offer alternative perspectives.

One fan suggested,

"He was trying to play the puck with hand."

Some fans questioned the consistency of the league's officiating.

"Thought the league was cracking down on embellishments," one fan tweeted.
"He must have watched tape of a couple Oilers and said 'hey I can do that," another fan said.

Despite the slow start, the Stars regrouped after the first period, where goalie Jake Oettinger stopped 16 of Edmonton’s 17 shots. Jamie Benn scored early for Dallas, but Connor Brown quickly equalized for Edmonton.

According to Stars coach Pete DeBoer:

“The first period, for whatever reason, we were tentative. We had talked about playing with the Game 7 mindset, and I think our intentions were in the right place, We looked like we were waiting for something to happen. We kind of regrouped at the end of the first. ... I loved the second and third, thought they were excellent."

In the third period, Mason Marchment deflected a shot by Ryan Suter to break the tie.

“There's not many better feelings than scoring in a playoff game, We’ll take that one and ... move on to the next one, right. We’ve got a big game coming up, so worry about that,” Marchment said.

Benn later assisted on Esa Lindell’s empty-net goal.

“Jake was unbelievable, We don’t win that game obviously without Jake tonight,” Benn said.

Oettinger made crucial saves late in the game to secure the win. Edmonton's Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl were held scoreless, ending Draisaitl’s 13-game point streak.

Game 3 will be in Edmonton, where Dallas previously won during the regular season.
