For the first time since 2015, the Boston Bruins have had a six-game losing streak, following a disappointing 4-1 away loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday.

After a brief resurgence under interim coach Joe Sacco, who took over in mid-November, the club is back struggling due to a series of underperforming players.

The Bruins haven't secured a win since the start of 2025, with their only one coming against the Blue Jackets on Dec. 28.

Following the loss to the Lightning, goaltender Jeremy Swayman, who's inked to an eight-year, $66 million contract, shared his thoughts on the team's current challenges.

Swayman noted that he has never faced such adversity in his career as he emphasized the importance of resilience and teamwork during this tough period.

"You dig in. And we haven't had this adversity before, at least my tenure here and what an opportunity, and that's where we have to look at it. And we have each other's backs, and that's one thing I know we won't lose in this room, is having each other's backs, and in the last two seconds the game isn't going to go unnoticed," Swayman said (4:22).

With six straight defeats, the Bruins have fallen out of third place in the Atlantic Division. They are now just one point ahead of the third-placed Pittsburgh Penguins in the wild card standings in the East.

The Boston Bruins will hope to end their skid when they face defending champions Florida Panthers on Friday. The puck drops at 1 p.m. ET.

How the Tampa Bay Lightning downed the Boston Bruins

After a goalless first period, Anthony Cirelli opened the scoring for the Lightning with a short-handed goal at 14:07 of the second period, giving them the lead.

With less than a minute to go in the period, Michael Eyssimont extended the Lightning's lead. Mason Lohrei cut the deficit for the Boston Bruins at 2:05 into the third period.

Brandon Hagel, though, scored an empty-net goal to restore the Lightning's two-goal lead, before Brayden Point's power-play goal at 19:24 sealed a commanding win for the home team.

Hagel, Nikita Kucherov and Ryan McDonagh accumulated two points each, while Andrei Vasilevskiy made 27 saves between the pipes for Tampa Bay. The Lightning face the New Jersey Devils next on Saturday.
