Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson revealed that he "didn't get much sleep" before the team's matchup against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday. The Canucks' travel plans were delayed due to a snowstorm in Raleigh, North Carolina, where they had played on Friday night in a 2-0 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. The inclement weather caused the team to arrive in Toronto just five hours before the opening faceoff.

Despite the disruption to their routine, the Canucks (19-13-10) managed to win 3-0 against the Maple Leafs.

Pettersson, who is signed to an eight-year, $92,800,000 contract with the Canucks, said the team did their best to make the most of the unusual circumstances.

“Little interesting morning for us. We stayed in Carolina, traveled today and just eat, sleep and hockey, but it was like our effort followed [the] game plan. Everybody was chipping in and really a good sell there from all of us,” Elias Pettersson said after the game.

Pettersson assisted on Brock Boeser's opening goal and blocked a team-high five shots.

"I didn't get much sleep last night. I tend not to have an easy time falling asleep after games. Then we were supposed to have an early flight, which took off like 90 minutes after it was scheduled. By the time we got to the hotel, it was kind of eat, sleep, and come back here," he added.

He also drew a comparison to junior hockey, where it was common for them to show up on game day.

Quinn Hughes and Kiefer Sherwood also found the back of the net. Goaltender Kevin Lankinen recorded a 20-save shutout, while Maple Leafs netminder Matt Murray made 15 stops in the losing effort.

Elias Pettersson addresses Vancouver Canucks' tough stretch

The Vancouver Canucks came into the game against the Leafs on the back of a four-game losing streak. However, star forward Elias Pettersson remains optimistic about the team's chances going forward.

" Yeah it’s been a tough stretch. But then we've been close to winning, but haven't pulled it off. But I think today, if we keep building on this and always try to play like this, I like our chances for every game." Pettersson said.

With the win over the Maple Leafs, the Vancouver Canucks will look to build on their performance as they prepare to face the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday.
