Florida Panthers forward A.J. Greer had one very special fan cheering for him on Saturday: his son Jackson. The Panthers hosted the Montreal Canadiens at a packed Amerant Bank Arena.
Greer’s wife, Taylore, gave birth to Jackson in February 2024 while he was with the Calgary Flames. Since then, the 28-year-old has repeatedly talked about what a blessing his son has been. On Saturday, Jackson was there to encourage his dad.
The next frame shows Jackson being supported by two unseen figures, likely his parents while standing upright.
This is not the first time Jackson has been at the arena to cheer on his parent. On Oct. 9, Taylore posted a picture of Jackson, again in the baby-sized #10 jersey. His father, A.J., might have been separated from his family by hockey glass, but it was clear that he was excited about sharing a precious moment with them.
On that occasion, the Panthers had defeated the Boston Bruins 6-4. But Greer’s family moment with 10-month-old Jackson drew a host of happy reactions and touched people’s hearts.
A.J. Greer "a keeper" for Florida Panthers, says coach
As a free agent in July 2024, Greer was signed by reigning Stanley Cup champions, the Florida Panthers, on a two-year, $1.7 million contract. The Panther had to replace almost their entire fourth line after four of their five regular players moved on in the off-season. And Greer has had an impressive three months with the team.
"He's a keeper for us," Panthers coach Paul Maurice said.
The 28-year-old has slotted into the roster seamlessly and is a good fit for Florida's physical, bruising, and gritty style of play. He leads the team with 99 hits this season and has already been involved in three fights, the most in the team.
And while Greer can sometimes cross the line, like in the incident with Bruins star David Pastrnak on Oct. 14, his love for the sport and determination to succeed shines through.
Apart from his toughness, Greer has also provided an additional option to the Panthers offense, with nine points (four goals and five assists) in 36 games.
