Connor McDavid finally scored his first goal of the 2024-25 NHL season in the Edmonton Oilers' 4-2 road win against the Nashville Predators on Thursday night. While McDavid entered the game with 4 assists through 4 games, fans were awaiting his first goal.

McDavid scored in the second period to put the Oilers 3-1 against the Predators. Following the goal, fans went online to jest about how it took the hockey star five matches to score a goal.

One fan joked:

"About time he caught up to Gustavsson," referring to the Wild goalie Filip Gustavsson's empty-net goal earlier this week.

Another fan noted:

"This goal is exactly the kind of goal a Goalscorer can appreciate. He tipped the puck from the point. Then follows up on the ricochet and tucks it perfectly upstairs on an empty net. It's also the go-ahead-goal in a battle. The positioning, timing, what more do you want?" on X.

Here are some fan reactions:

"So overrated. Should trade him to Chicago for Lukas Reichel and a 7th" one fan wrote on X.
"Already glazing this mid player who took this long to score" another fan wrote.
"Mc***k wouldn't last five games in the league 20 years ago. The NHL has become a league of cream puffs for well over a decade." a user commented.
"Finally, McDavid gets on the scoresheet!" another user wrote.

Despite the slow start in terms of goal scoring, McDavid's first tally of the year helped propel the Oilers (2-3-0) to back-to-back wins after starting the season 0-3-0. Last season, Connor McDavid scored 32 goals and provided 100 assists, resulting in 132 points.

Paul Bissonnette urges Connor McDavid to join Maple Leafs

Former NHL player turned analyst Paul Bissonnette made waves on social media recently when he urged Connor McDavid to leave the Edmonton Oilers and join his hometown Toronto Maple Leafs.

Bissonnette posted a picture on Twitter of a young McDavid posing in a Leafs jersey with a captain's "C" on it.

"Can't believe the Oilers wasted McJesus' prime, "Bissonnette tweeted."Come home, Connor. It's time to end the drought."

Bissonnette was referring to Toronto's Stanley Cup drought, last won in 1966-67 season.
