Alex Ovechkin has stirred up some buzz following a leaked New Year's message video that surfaced after the Washington Capitals 3-1 victory over the Boston Bruins on Monday.

In the video, recorded in Russian, Ovechkin expressed his excitement about the game. The message also included some colorful language directed at the Bruins while also inviting his teammates to celebrate the New Year and enjoy a few drinks.

As per Hockey News Hub, Alex Ovechkin's message translates as:

"Hey guys we've just finished the game, f*cked the f**king Boston Bruins. Coming home to celebrate the New Year. Wishing everyone to have a couple of beers and fight the hangover."

Ovechkin appeared to be pumped up in the video, and it's easy to see why. Emotions were running high after the Capitals finished the year strong with a solid win over the Bruins, sitting atop the Metro Division with 52 points.

Red Wings HC praises Alex Ovechkin

Following the Capitals' 4-2 defeat to the Red Wings on Sunday, coach Todd McLellan took a moment to commend Alex Ovechkin and his pursuit of Wayne Gretzky's scoring record.

The Red Wings boss noted that Ovi seems to be improving with each year, demonstrating his skills and consistency on the ice.

“He’s chasing Gretzky,” McLellan said. “He seems to be getting better than he was last year or the year before. And they've done a really good job with their team, an excellent job, but he's done a real good job with his chase to energize that group too.

Alex Ovechkin made his comeback to the Capitals after missing 16 games due to a leg injury suffered on Nov. 16. On his return, Ovi scored as the Caps beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-2.

“I have to find a rhythm, feel the game and try to do little things, feel the puck,” Ovechkin said after the return. “I tried to play short and hard and go change.”

He then added another goal against the Red Wings, bringing his career total to 870. Ovechkin is now just 25 goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky's record.

The Capitals host the Minnesota Wild next at Capital One Arena on Thursday, with the puck dropping at 7 p.m. ET.
