The New York Rangers and defenseman Ryan Lindgren have finalized a deal ahead of their scheduled arbitration hearing on August 2. According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the agreement is for one year and valued at $4.5 million.

Friedman announced the news on X (formerly Twitter), noting:

"Ryan Lindgren and the Rangers have settled on a one-year deal at $4.5M. All arbitration is done"

Following the announcement, NHL fans began sharing their reactions on X.

"What a horrific overpay," one fan said.
"All that to lose to FLA again," another fan commented.
"Wait for all of the world class sofa sitting GM’s to comment about how horrible this is, how poorly Drury manages the club etc," one X user said.

Take a look at some more reactions from NHL fans on X.

"Once Trouba stayed, this was logical outcome. Next year, Trouba gets dealt and Drury can decide then whether he lets Lindy walk or gives him longer term. Another season to find a replacement should he walk," one fan tweeted.
"As long as Chris Drury still have certain players on the roster with long term contracts, they won't have a chance to win unless they get one of those players to finally cave and leave New York," a fan opined.
"Team didn’t want term and the player wanted a high average- I guess both sides are happy. This is the last year before the @NYRangers have to pay Shesterkin, so a 1 year deal is perfect," one fan suggested.

New York Rangers defenseman Ryan Lindgren's 2023-2024 season

Ryan Lindgren played 76 games for the Rangers in the 2023-24 season. He is a six-foot, left-handed defenseman and is starting his seventh year with the team.

Since his NHL debut in January 2019, Lindgren has played 333 games, scoring 10 goals and registering 70 assists for 80 points. In 43 playoff games, he has three goals and eight assists.

Lindgren was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the second round of the 2016 NHL Draft. He was traded to the Rangers in 2018 as part of the deal for Rick Nash. Known for his physical style of play, he follows in the tradition of Dan Girardi and Adam Graves.

The Rangers are facing upcoming contract negotiations for key players like Igor Shesterkin and Alexis Lafrenière. The salary cap is expected to increase from $88 million this season to around $92 million in 2025-26.
