Andrei Svechnikov was injured during the Hurricanes' game against the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday at Raleigh's PNC Arena. Hurricanes general manager Don Weddell confirmed today that Andrei Svechnikov will be out indefinitely.
Don Weddell said:
"Andrei had an MRI on Monday afternoon, and had a consultation with our team doctors," said Waddell (via NHL.com). "In the interest of being thorough, we are continuing to gather information along with Andrei to make the best decision for his health. We will provide further information after a decision is made."
The news has come as a huge blow to the Hurricanes organization, as the team will miss Andrei Svenchnikov's contributions in the upcoming games, especially during the playoffs. The 22-year-old forward has been a key contributor to the Hurricanes' points total this season.
Andrei Svenchnikov has been the Hurricanes' joint-second leading scorer this season, with 55 points in 64 games. He has 23 goals and 32 assists, making him the Hurricanes' third-highest assist and goal scorer.
Andrei Svechnikov's NHL career
Andrei Svenchnikov is regarded as one of the NHL's brightest young forwards. He was the Carolina Hurricanes' second-round choice in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, and he made his NHL debut in the 2018-19 season.
Andrie Svenchnikov has played 347 games in the NHL and has 264 points, including 112 goals and 152 assists. He recorded his best campaign during the 2021-22 season, when Andrei recorded 69 points with (30 goals, 39 assists) in 78 matches.
In 2023, he made his first All-Star Game appearance and became the fastest skater in the NHL. The 22-year-old skater won the 2023 All-Star Skills competition by clocking the quickest lap with a time of 13.699, making him the fastest NHL skater. With this feat, Andrei Svechnikov became only the third player in the history of the Hurricanes to achieve this accomplishment.
The Carolina Hurricanes, on the other hand, are currently leading the Metropolitan Division with 94 points in 65 games. However, the Hurricanes have recently lost two games without scoring.
The Carolina Hurricanes hope to bounce back after their recent consecutive goalless defeat when they face the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday. The puck drop for the game is schedule for 7 PM/ET.
