Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid hit the links at Zach Hyman’s annual Celebrity Classic golf tournament. Several stars hit the golf course for a worthy cause of their choice. Despite the good intentions, some fans couldn’t help but poke fun at McDavid’s swings.
Here’s a look at some choice comments regarding McDavid’s golf performance:
“Another pathetic performance,” a fan chimed in.
“Does he cry in golf too?” this fan opined.
“Chokers stay choking,” another fan said.
Apart from those outrightly critical of McDavid, some made snarky comments about the Oilers captain's seeming recovery from his abdominal injury.
“I thought he had an abdominal injury but is playing golf and water boarding,” a fan posted.
“Well, the awful abdominal injury he sustained a few weeks ago healed well hey?” a fan commented.
“At least he’s okay at hockey,” this fan weighed in.
The good news is that McDavid looks in good health. That bodes well for this upcoming season as the Oilers look to improve on last year’s successful campaign. Meanwhile, McDavid can take advantage of his time this offseason to improve his swing.
Connor McDavid seems all healed for next season
During exit interviews at the end of last season’s playoff run, Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch confirmed that most of his players had been dealing with an injury, per The Hockey News.
In fact, the same outlet reported TSN’s Ryan Rishaug’s comment, where the latter stated that McDavid wouldn’t need surgery to address the injury.
However, the big question remained: What injury was Connor McDavid dealing with?
There is plenty of speculation regarding the situation. In the fan comments above, several fans commented that McDavid had apparently healed from an abdominal injury. That belief stems from a documentary film entitled 'Whatever It Takes', which hinted at the potential injuries McDavid has faced.
Regardless of the actual injury plaguing the Oilers captain during the Stanley Cup Final, McDavid seems fit to compete. That’s a good sign since McDavid looks to be ready for the start of the new season. The team heads into the 2024-25 season with high expectations after a heartbreaking Game 7 loss in the Stanley Cup Final.
With most of last year’s team returning and a full season behind the bench, Knoblauch could lead the Oilers to a historic championship run.
