Most NHL fans believe Rasmus Dahlin should be the Buffalo Sabres' next captain. Buffalo doesn't have a captain after trading Kyle Okposo to the Florida Panthers last season, who was their captain.
Whether or not Buffalo will name a new captain before the 2024-25 NHL season is uncertain. But the NHL posted a question on social media about who the next Sabres' captain should be.
Many fans thought Dahlin should be Buffalo's captain.
"Any answer but Dahlin is unacceptable," a fan wrote.
"It's Dahlin," a fan wrote.
However, some fans think it should be Alex Tuch, who grew up in Buffalo.
"Tuch and it’s not even close. Dude bleeds blue and gold and has for his entire life. We need someone who’s willing to go to the ends of the earth for this team and I’m confident to say Tuch would be that guy. He’s more emotionally invested than the rest," a fan wrote.
"It should probably be Tuch, but it will go to Dahlin because of his contract and term. Dahlin is not a bad choice either though," a fan added.
Whether or not Buffalo will even name a captain is uncertain, but fans believe it should be Tuch or Dahlin.
"Definitely going to Dahlin!," a fan added.
"As a Sabres fan I couldn’t care less who the captain is. Win hockey games. Tbh I don’t think they should name a captain this year," a fan wrote.
The Sabres are looking to finally end their playoff drought in the 2024-25 NHL season. Buffalo has not made the playoffs since the 2010-11 season.
Buffalo Sabres add depth in the offseason
In the offseason, the Buffalo Sabres didn't make any splash moves but rather added depth pieces.
Buffalo signed forwards Jason Zucker and Sam Lafferty, as well as goalie James Reimer. The Sabres also traded top prospect Matthew Savoie to the Edmonton Oilers for Ryan McLeod and Tyler Tullio.
"I really like the steps we took today and took a big step towards being the type of team we need to be," Buffalo Sabres GM Kevyn Adams said, via WBKW.com. "(We're) harder to play against, direct, fast, physical, wearing teams down and physical."
Buffalo also gave goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen a five-year extension worth $4.75 million per season.
The Sabres open the 2024-25 NHL season on October 4 against the New Jersey Devils.
