“Are you guys high?” “They are trying to get rid of Zegras”: NHL fans react over Anaheim Ducks’ high asking price for Trevor Zegras

The Anaheim Ducks are reportedly dealing Trevor Zegras to the Montreal Canadiens, per The Athletic’s Apron Basu. In exchange, they want defenseman Kaiden Guhle or 2023 first-round pick David Reinbacher.

Basu believes the deal is unlikely. However, the news has fans questioning the Ducks’ rationale in trading Trevor Zegras.

However, not all fans oppose the deal. Some fans feel that trading Guhle would be good for the Habs.

"Trade Guhle for Zegras, Draft Sam Dickinson. End of the debate," one fan tweeted on X.
"If it’s Guhle for Zegras straight up, absolutely," Another fan tweeted.
"Move Guhle for sure if we are keeping Matheson. He’s in their long term plan," a fan tweeted.

While a trade between the Habs and Ducks involving Zegras is far from certain, the Habs will look to improve their lineup this summer. It will be a matter of time before fans see what moves the Habs make leading up to next season.

Ducks listening on Trevor Zegras

The alleged deal between the Canadiens and Ducks involving Trevor Zegras is the latest in a series of potential trade scenarios.

While the Ducks haven’t openly said they want to trade Zegras, Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek has been open about his desire to improve the club.

"I’d like to add a couple more veteran pieces to the group. I’d like to find a top-six winger, and I’d like to find a top-four defenseman. You know, 31 other teams could say the same thing, right?" Verbeek said (via The Score).

These comments underscore Verbeek’s desire to balance the Ducks’ young core as the club emerges from its rebuild.

"I’m trying to make our lineup deeper while having the younger kids gain more experience, learn from veteran players, and not have to bear the burden of producing offensively," Verbeek added.

With those comments in mind, the asking price for Zegras is reportedly high.

According to insider Pierre LeBrun, the Canadiens know the price tag is high for Zegras. LeBrun wrote in The Athletic that his sources report the Ducks would be willing to move Zegras “in the right deal.”

While LeBrun reported that Montreal GM Kent Hughes is committed to improving the club, LeBrun doesn’t believe that the Habs will “pursue Zegras aggressively.”

LeBrun concluded this thought by stating that a decision on a deal will come down to draft day. A deal could happen on the draft floor as the Canadiens hold the fifth-overall pick.
